Frequently Asked Questions
What are the “Wee Knights”?
This is a developmental program that introduces the child (K & 1st grade) to the sport of cheerleading. Kindergartners in this division will learn a half-time routine and perform at different KYO football HOME games throughout the season. 1st graders will cheer for two quarters for the 1st grade teams and perform their half time routine. Practices may be held 2-3 times per week before school starts and reduces to 1-2 times a week once school starts. Practice time is at the coach’s discretion.
What is Football Cheer?
This program is designed for the child to learn game cheerleading. Participants in this program will cheer for KYO football teams in the 2nd- 6th grade levels. Practices may be held 2-3 times per week before school starts and reduces to 1-2 times a week once school starts. Practice time is at the coach’s discretion.
What is Competition Cheer?
This program will be run differently than in the past. We will compete as individual squads, based on enough interest per age group. Those squads will then participate in 1-2 competitions. They will learn a choreographed routine consisting of dance, tumbling (various levels), and a cheer all done to music. Practices are mandatory and will be held 2 times per week. It is strongly recommended that each participant enroll in a tumbling class. The additional cost you will incur per competition will be known when the particular event is chosen, you will be responsible for this payment.
